About Me
:

When someone asks me what I do for a living, I like to tell them: "I kill people off." This always leads to looks of confusion and nervous laughter...or sheer panic. Sometimes I follow my comment with "Fictitiously, of course." Sometimes I like to leave them wondering. ;-)

My writing career began when I was a teen journalist working for a small BC newspaper. I made $5 a week writing about the happenings in my town. Nothing much exciting happened and I was tempted to create my own news--but I didn't. When I was 16, I wrote my first horror novel titled Beckoning Wrath. It mysteriously disappeared from my locker when I brought it to school to show my LA teacher. I haven't seen it since, and that was long before PCs and Microsoft Word. I wrote my next horror/suspense novel when I was in my early 20s. I still have it, and the map of my fictional town. One day...

In June 2009, I ventured into the romantic suspense genre with my debut romance novel Lancelot's Lady, now a semi-finalist in the Textnovel/Dorchester "Next Best Celler" contest. I'm writing this novel under a romance pen name - Cherish D'Angelo - to help separate the two main genres I'm drawn to--suspense thrillers and romance. I believe I am a "new voice"in romance. I liken writing Lancelot's Lady to culminating worldwide fans; they both start with building relationships. In Lancelot's Lady, relationships are built between my characters and also with me as the writer. I can hear them breathing.

I'm a published, full-time author. My most popular novel, Whale Song (2007), is now out of print (the publisher went under earlier this year) and in negotiations with a respected film producer for a major motion picture. A 3rd print edition may also be in the works. A percentage of my royalties from Whale Song went to Hope Mission, Bissell Centre and Mustard Seed Church to help those struggling with poverty, homelessness and addictions.

Two of my suspense thrillers are being read right now by a popular film director. He's considering Divine Intervention for a TV series and The River for a major motion picture. He has worked on some well-known television series.

My agent Jack Scovil from Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency in New York is pitching 2 new suspense thrillers: Children of the Fog and Divine Justice, book 2 in the Divine paranormal suspense series.

I'm looking for a new publishing home, one that will allow me the freedom to do what I do best--write and promote my work.

I'm a professional member of Romance Writers of America, Authors Guild, Canadian Authors Association, Crime Writers of Canada, and Writers Guild of Alberta.

Nominated in 2004 for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award, I've appeared on TV and radio, and have been featured in newspapers and magazines in Canada and the US. I was a "celebrity chef" cooking Strawberry Dumplings with my daughter Jessica on Celebrity Chefs on CHUMTV (responsible for Canada's Next Top Model) and I had a blast as a contestant in the televised series "A Total Write Off!", a writing game show with a live audience. I also wrote a PSA script for the Racial Harmony Campaign and came in third. My script One Voice ~ One World was produced and aired across Alberta.

One of my goals as an author is to give back when I can, and I enjoy presenting at writers' conferences in Canada and the US, on the subject of book marketing (including utilizing online social networks, organizing virtual book tours, bookstore signings and more). I've held over 200 book signings and special events since 2003, and I have organized numerous multi-author events, including creating "Authors' Row" at the Edmonton Woman's Show.
