I'm a 22 year old author...(more to come)

I'M ON TWITTER(what have I done? I was never suppose to be on there!)

Most people say, they started with poems or angst at a young age and then got into writing. Not me. I read. By the time I was in middle school, I had read all of the books recommended for the 9th and 10th grades of high school plus the books for middle school. I began writing around middle school. My reading teacher at the time, Ms. Warren, was a cool teacher. She was into The Beatles, how could she not be cool? Well, our class was reading S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. Halfway through the book, I started to write a little story called The Lonely Girls. It sucked, but it was my first attempt. People got curious on what I was writing and I was happy but I stopped and read what I had wrote and hated it! I stopped writing and went back to my first love, reading. I read and read until I was in high school. Never did it come to my mind that I should write a few stories.

Well, I had to go back to writing for my English class, 10th grade. We had to write a horror story for a contest/grade in the class. I wrote on  a girl and guy during the U.S. Civil War who were in love... and the President was to visit their town...and she got stuck on a railroad track and got hit by the train to haunt the town for the rest of the time...years pass... the distant relative of the girl did something or other. In the end, the story sucked, but I got it back with a B. So I looked over it and started to work with it.

I worked with it and worked with it until the summer before my senior year of high school when it was completed in a three-part, 43,000 word novel called Tragic Love. It's one of my pride and joys. I was really satisfied with writing and tried to continue but not many ideas came to fruition. It wasn't until I was introduced to Patricia Cornwell's works that I really got into a subject to write about, police procedural.

I remained in that genre of books, reading everything from Patterson to Kellerman (both!) until i graduated and decided to go to the University of New Orleans.

That was August 2005. We all know about that month. If not, one word- Katrina. Which was funny enough that in my story, Tragic Love which is set in New Orleans for part of it, one of the main characters name is...Katrina!

Afterwards, I transferred to LSU (Geaux Tigers!) and continued to read Cornwell. I started to get restless with just going to school and going home and with just reading. I started back writing and i was writing short stories. Weird short stories. They were on the verge of horror and weirdness. I would soon find out that genre was called speculative fiction. I joined writing forums online to get feedback and it was really positive.

One day, i was finishing Cornwell's novel, Trace, and the last chapter just captured me. The exact words that came out of my mouth were "I want to write something like this!" So I gathered my books and booksack and moved to the library. Sitting down, my fingers just flowed. In five minutes, I had the first chapter for Past Revisited, the first of about ten stories I would write for my own police procedural creation, Marlena Broussard (at the time, she as called Marlena Brooks).

Over a span of five months, I came up with seven different cases and stories for Marlena and her gang and it was just expanding, but i was also still writing my short stories. I found a site called Silverthought and submitted some stories there. Great feedback and i felt that I could really enjoy writing and getting my stories out there.

I continued with Marlena and my education with going (partially) back to UNO then BRCC. Once i graduated from BRCC with an Associate's in CJ, I was slowing down on Marlena's stories and fine tuning Tragic Love for hopeful publication and working on a vampire story. (I was into the whole vampire phase before the Twilight sickness! Long Live Dracula!)

Also at that time, my dear, DEAR, friend Tabitha introduced me to the obsession that I have now, ASIAN DRAMAS! It started with Taiwanese dramas (The Outsiders and Meteor Garden) and now has spanned to Korean and Japanese dramas along with Taiwanese music, Japanese fashion, and Korean music.

I'm currently a junior/senior at SELU in Hammond, LA majoring in Chemistry-Forensic Science. I'm, of course, still writing. I have many projects including Buru Hairu, along with a movie script that I am writing with Tabb and a K-drama we are working on. I've pulled back on Marlena and occasionally write the short stories.

I hope people enjoy my writing and I just want people to feel like they can escape for just a few minutes into my stories to a world or a culture that is really interesting.

WOW! That's a lot! I have trouble just writing a little details. Maybe that's why after that story in 10th grade, i can write a 7 page paper for a 3 page assignment and get an A or BS my way through an essay i have no idea of the subject and pass it. Hoped you enjoyed my story!

Hopefulwriter.blogspot.com will be updated weekly now! (Hopefully! )
