Hi there! I'm Telli, 18, going to college to major in English Education. I've written a few novels before, but they're all abysmal. Still, I'm persevering in the hopes of one day getting published.
I love editing, actually, which is mostly why I'm here. I love providing constructive criticism, and I'm hoping for some in return. I will edit the first chapter of any story, as long as it isn't rated R. If I like the story enough, I'll keep editing it. I look for stylistic, grammatical and structural. So pretty much the whole spectrum.
I'm slow to subscribe to stories, and I don't hand out votes like chocolate. That doesn't mean a story is bad if I don't vote for it, it just means it is not exceptional.
Some notes about grammar: since this is "the internets," I let a lot of grammar mistakes slide, unless the author says that they want help with the grammar of a story. However, I will point out grammar mistakes if they are bad enough that they make a story hard to read. You can say "accept" instead of "except" and I'll know what you mean, but when you start souding like "All your base are belong to us," I will call you out. After all, what's the point of writing a story if no one can read it because the spelling and punctuation are so awful?
Some notes about edits: Usually, after I edit something, I don't check back to see if the author left a comment on my edit. So, if you have a question about edits, send me a personal message. Also, remember that I'm not a professional, I'm helping you for free, and that most of editing (even some of the grammar stuff) is subjective. If you don't like what I have to say, you can ignore me and it won't hurt my feelings. However, I'm not critiquing you because I like putting down your work, I'm critquing you because I want to help you improve. Having a thousand people tell you your story is great is not going to help you become a better writer. So, take all advice with a grain of salt, feel free to contact me with questions.
Some final thoughts: I've read over ten thousand books. While I may not have much experience as a writer (but with four completed novels under my belt, I have more experience than most people), I am a very experienced reader. I know what makes a story fun to read, and I won't stand for the same tired plot devices. Actually, I might forgive bad plot devices, but if your characters are cliche, I'm probably going to go read something else.
