Chapter 1:- Chapter 1
“Ah! When will summer break be here?” Suzuki Takara asked as she sat on Ishida Miyuki’s desk as she drew. Miyuki remained silent as her classmates surrounded her. It was month since Miyuki transferred to Asahi High School and she had something she thought she wouldn’t have anymore: friends.
“You’re still going to be here anyway, Takara,” Yuri said stood before the dark haired “klutz” of the group. Both girls had short bob haircuts but each a different temperament with different hair colors.
Takara, though a dark haired girl, was what Miyuki knew as having the personality of an “American blonde”; ditzy. Yuri, blonde, was a follower of Ayumi, doing as she did and as she said but very smart. These were the observations that Miyuki could see as she spent more and more time with the girls. They saw her as a friend and somewhere deep inside, Miyuki was seeing them that way also.
She never was in a group in school growing up. It was always her and Mayu. Always together, never far apart. Miyuki continued to doodle in her notebook as the chatter continued in class, waiting for homeroom. That’s what she usually did as she sat in class, waiting for each lesson. Nothing specific, just simple drawings.
“Ishida-san,” Miyuki looked up as her name was called. Rika pointed to the open window of the classroom into the hallway. Seto Tadashii stood waving, a half-smile on his face. Miyuki smiled as she waved back to him. Tadashii made his way to his class, being pulled by his classmates away.
“Are you dating Seto-kun?” Rika asked as she sat across from Miyuki. Fujimoto Rika was different from Takara and Yuri. She was somewhat shy but made her voice heard within the conversation. Her features were cute with her long brown hair, usually up in a ponytail, and a smile that is always around.
"No! we just go to the same cram school,” Miyuki explained as she hid her drawings and smiled at the three girls.
"Eh! Miyuki-chan's face is turning red!" Takara said pointing to the blushing Miyuki. Miyuki covered her cheeks as she looked away. "Didn't I see you with Seto-kun at the sports festival?" Miyuki looked up at Takara.
“I was helping him along with Ayumi," They giggled as they continued to wait for class. Miyuki looked around the room, her eyebrow raised.
“Where is Ayumi-san?”
“She usually is late to class.”
“Hai! To make her presence known in class,” Yuri said.
“Oh. At the sports festival, who was Ayumi cheering for?”
“Ah, Takuma-san!” Takara said singsong as she stood up.
“Takuma? Isn’t he in the same class as Seto-san?” Miyuki asked
“That’s right! Two cute guys in the same classroom. I wish I was in class 1.” Rika said as she sighed.
"Seto-kun and Takuma-kun have been friends since elementary school. They have always been popular," Yuri said.
"Yes, they have and I got the better of the two," Ayumi said sashayed into the classroom. "Why are you girls talking about Jun’ichi-kun?"
"Miyuki-chan asked," Rika said standing giving Ayumi the seat as she smiled. Miyuki couldn’t help smiling at Ayumi. The smile was infectious but hiding something.
“It’s nothing, Ayumi-san. I’ve never met him before.”
“It’s okay. You know if you start dating Tadashii-kun, we could double date.”
“Double date...I wish I had a boyfriend,” Takara said as she sat in her desk behind Miyuki, dropping her head to the desk.
The door to the classroom opened as Kaga-sensei entered, a draining look on her face. She had started to smile less since Miyuki has been there.
“Take your seats, students,” Everyone moved slowly to their seat as Kaga-sensei stood before the class. Dark circles formed under puffy eyes as Miyuki look at her homeroom teacher.
“I’ll be passing back last week’s test, remain quiet until the last test is handed out.” Takara tapped Miyuki’s shoulder. Miyuki, keeping forward, leaned back.
“What’s wrong with her?” Takara asked.
“Maybe she’s getting fired,” Miyuki said joking.
“I wish.”
“Suzuki-san, be quiet,” Miyuki sat forward as her teacher grew anger with each paper she passed out. As the last one was passed out, Kaga-sensei left the room immediately. Murmurs started as each student went back to talking. Takara stood from her desk and moved toward Ayumi along with Yuri and Rika. They said nothing as they stood around. Ayumi looked to Miyuki, signaling her over to the group. She hesitated but stood and moved toward them.
“What was her problem?” Yuri asked.
“Yeah, why did she called for you, Takara and Miyuki to go to the staff room after school?” Rika asked Ayumi.
“I know why. I made a 42 on the test. The third test I fail this year,” Takara said sitting on the edge of the desk.
“It’s not even summer break yet!” Yuri exclaimed.
“Hey! Suzuki-san, why don’t you just not come to school? You would do a lot better,” a classmate shouted across the room.
“Shut the hell up, bastard!”
“Why Miyuki and Ayumi-san though?” Rika asked in her high voice. Rika reminded Miyuki of the Hime lolitas she saw in Tokyo. Their voices were the same.
Ayumi hunched her shoulders but Miyuki saw why Kaga-sensei called her. Ayumi-san, vice class rep and one of the prettiest girls in class, had made a 39 on the test. Miyuki was surprised. Being the class vice president, she was expected to make high marks but she didn’t.
“Miyuki-chan, what did you make on the test?” Takara whispered.
“Not that high.”
She had a 97, around her average, but she wasn’t going to tell them. She would seem like an outsider, someone who was trying to show them up, flaunting her grade. She had just made friends. She didn’t need to lose them.
“What was with the circles under her eyes?” Rika asked still watching the door for Kaga-sensei.
“Rika-chan, you ask too many questions,” Ayumi said standing. Rika gasped and turned to her.
“Sorry.”
“I heard that she’s worried about being fired.”
“Takara! That’s not...” Miyuki grabbed Takara’s wrist to stop her but was stopped herself.
“That’s what I heard too!” Tamura Aoi said standing from across the room. She moved to the front of the class to get everyone’s attention.
“I heard that she was having an affair with Konno-sensei and the principal found out.”
“Konno-sensei?”
“What?”
“Why him?” Those were the shouts that Miyuki heard as everyone turned to Tamura-san in the front of the class.
“Ne~! That’s not it,” Everyone was looking to Ayumi now. “She was having an affair with a student.”
Murmurs rose as the rumor was about to spread.
