Chapter 1:- Prologue
"What do you know about the Calendar Wars?”
I found myself shivering despite the heat of plains, trapped and magnified in this cluttered tent. Scrying mirrors and enchanted ever-changing maps were sprawled over the central table, but such petty magic didn’t interest me anymore. Not after what I’ve seen those violet eyes do. Even now I could feel their pressure as they bored into me, forcing all rational thought out of my mind and leaving me with nothing but a fluttering sense of vulnerability and primal instinct to turn and flee. Helpless, I stared at the dirt floor and stuttered out an intelligible response.
"What was that?”
Her voice was cold and mocking, with a sarcastic edge like a knife. I stared over her shoulder, words clamoring out of my mouth before I could think them through.
“I said, the Calendar Wars started with the Night Denizens’ aggression and are being fought across the country. The King’s Army is using this chance to reclaim Halrean from the Night World, and plan to stop the assault by-” Her piercing gaze and wry smile cut off my rambling answer.
“Good,” she said, her voice less intimidating, “Everything you know is wrong.”
