Chapter 1:- snack time
I crouched in the shadows and crept along as silently as possible. I stopped and bent myself into a small ball. I could hear the hunter breathing on the other side of the low wall. I focused on not breathing and staying still. The hunter moved. I froze and waited. One second. Two seconds. Three.
Finally, I heard the hunter move on. I waited until I couldn’t hear his footsteps anymore, then got up and stretched. Whew. That had been a close one.
The hunter had been stalking me for about a week now. But I was pretty sure he would leave me alone after this.
I walked through the dark warehouses, not bothering to be silent anymore. But although I was sure the hunter had left, I still didn’t feel completely safe until I stepped into the bright city lights. He couldn’t harm me with humans around.
As soon as I entered my small, cozy apartment, I collapsed onto my bed. My throat burned with thirst, but I hadn’t slept in weeks. I needed the rest.
Just as the sun was setting, I woke up. Perfect. I wouldn’t have to wait long to feed.
I got ready methodically, in the usual way. I dressed in my favorite dress, strapless and silvery. It hung just a little over my knees. I put on my strappy silver heels and twisted my dark hair expertly into an elaborate-looking bun on the top of my head. Lots of make-up and silver hoops through my ears completed the look.
In only ten short minutes, I already looked at least three years older.
I smiled to my reflection in the full-sized mirror at the end of my walking closet. I was proud of myself. At the beginning, it took me about forty five minutes to get ready, and I looked barely two years older.
I set out towards Night Trap, my favorite place. I walked in the shadows out of habit, because it wasn’t necessary now- it was night time- but I still preferred the darkness.
As soon as I walked in, the bartender greeted me.
“The usual?” He asked with a grin.
“Yes, please,” I smiled back.
As he prepared my drink, I scanned the crowd. The bar was quite full and very noisy. Perfect.
I could see two guys about twice my age sneering at me invitingly, but I ignored them. A group of geeky looking guys were huddled in a corner, staring at my legs. They seemed like easy prey, but still, I moved on. A guy and a girl that looked about my age were making out passionately on a green leather couch, but I kept searching. My gaze focused on two good looking guys laughing a few stools away, each with a beer in hand and a few empty bottles strewn around them. Bingo!
I turned to the bartender and grabbed my drink quickly, almost spilling the dark red liquid all over my dress, but fortunately I stopped the glass from tipping over.
I sauntered over to them casually and sat down on the stool next to the dark haired, better looking guy. I didn’t look at them directly and sipped my drink absentmindedly.
Just as I had hoped, the guys immediately started elbowing themselves and whispering. Finally, the blond guy spoke.
“Hey,”
I turned. “Oh, hi,"
The dark haired guy grinned. "I'm Zack. (=) Wanna dance?"
Victory! "Sure."
Leaving his blond friend behind, I followed Zack to the middle of the dance floor. I started absentmindedly around us while we swayed to the beat.
I took a sip of my drink and smiled. I didn't feel so weak anymore, but my body wanted more. I decided to take action.
"Hey Zack. Wanna go outside for a minute? It's a bit...hot in here."
"Sure, um....what did you say your name was?"
"I didn't say. I'm Alexis," I grinned.
"Okay, Alexis. Let's go,"
I led him away from the crowd, claiming that I was taking him to my favorite place. A cool breeze touched my neck, and I pretended to shiver. Perfect.
We sat down on a long log, hidden from view from bushes and trees. We talked for a while, and I noticed he wanted more. I stalled, waiting for the night to get colder. He was pretty drunk, and was quickly downing another beer. He had another one in his hand. I gladly noted that Zack had left his coat behind. When the next breeze hit me, I faked a shiver and hugged my knees to my chest.
"Are you cold?" Zack asked, looking worried.
"I'm fine,"
"No, really. You look like you're freezing!"
"Well," I amended. "I am a little cold."
"Oh, damn it. I left my shirt inside. Should I go get it?"
"No, no I'm fine. Really."
"Okay. Come here, then."
He opened his arms, grinning crazily, and I knew he was drunk enough he wouldn't notice what I was about to do. I moved closer to him and grabbed my face in his hands. He grinned excitedly, assuming I was about to kiss him. He started moving forwards, but I ducked down closer to his neck. He held me tight.
I carefully positioned my mouth on his neck in the perfect place. Slowly, I sank my teeth into the soft skin on his neck. The blood started flowing easily. I sucked happily until my thirst was satisfied. Feeling a little guilty, but at the same time happy, I left Zack lying unconsciously on the dirt. He would wake up wondering how he got two little punctures in his neck, but I was confident he wouldn't remember, and if he did, who would believe him?
I would. A little voice whispered inside of me.
Even though I´d been doing this for years now, I still didn´t feel fully comfortable. That´s why I was always careful when bi fed. I couldn´t kill what I´d been so long ago.
I sighed.
I checked the time. It was still 1:30. I had half an hour to change before the meeting.
