I awoke Monday morning with bad taste in my mouth. I licked my lips and tasted what was left of my midnight snack. I groaned.
I didn't like drinking blood late at night, but I couldn't sleep. I blame this on the fact that Monday I started public high school. No longer would I be attending a secret vampire academy, but I would be thrust into the world of who slept with who and where's he/she hiding the stash?
I got out of bed and tumbled towards my closet. I took out my favorite black slip dress which showed my shoulders and had long, black sleeves. I stepped into my black flats and ran my fingers through my hair.
I walked infront of the mirror and looked upon myself. Not that bad. I looked like any other gothic/emo kid in any high school. I wasn't exactly going for emo or gothic, but those stereotypes fit my personality fine.
I grabbed my backpack from the floor and descended down the stairs outside my bedroom door.
I entered the kitchen a moment later and surveyed the room for the rest of my family. The kitchen was empty and the house was silent. I rolled my eyes and proceeded to the white refridgerator.
I opened it and grabbed a jug of red liquid from it. I poured this liquid into a empty water bottle and then put the caps on both bottles.
I put the jug of red liquid back in the fridge and held the other bottle in my hand. I opened the bottle again, took a swig, then shut it and stuck it in the side pocket of my backpack which hung over my shoulder.
I caught a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the microwave on the way out of the kitchen and was struck. I now looked a bit older, more mature. This often happened in school last year, but I wondered how kids would react this year.
I set aside that thought, brushed my long, black hair from my face, and left my town house in search of the school called Coast View High School.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I arrived in little over forty minutes. I wasn't late because, knowing I had no idea where I was going, I had left early. I arrived about ten minutes before the school bell rang, and I had time to kill.
I sat on a wall near a fountain in the front of the school. The structure of the building was basic and a tan color, maybe light enough to be the color of sand. The doors were a dark blue with a white paw print on them. The sidewalk leading to the doors was crowded with students who occasionally looked my way. I was, after all, new meat.
"Hi," I heard a voice say from behind me. It was perky, and I didn't like it.
I turned around to see a small, skinny, blonde girl looking at me.
"May I help you?" I asked, sarcasm heavy.
"Yes, you may. You can get your ass off my spot. This is wear cheerleaders hang out," she spat.
I got up and covered my mouth in a gasp like gesture. "I am so sorry! I had no idea I was taking the position of the whore sqaud! I would never want to sit here with hopes of being such great a slut as you, the almighty cheerleader.'
The girls cheeks grew red in rage. I laughed. "Well, I'll leave you to it."
I began to walk away when I heard her say something again. "So, new girl, you think you've got balls?"
"Not the last time I checked." More laughter.
She stalked toward me and stepped on her tip toes to get to my height. She still couldn't do it. "Look, I don't know who you think you are, but you better stop or-"
"Or you'll ruin my rep? Isn't that every cheerleaders golden card? Well, I don't really have one, and if it's ruined I could really care less."
I walked up the steps and left the blonde in a cloud of anger and confusion.
I leaned against the wall and waited for the bell to ring. I now could clearly see peope staring, but I didn't care. The blonde's group of girls glared and I smiled and blew kisses.
I knew what they were thinking, and it didn't bother me at all. I had been serious. I had been sent to this God forsaken place to learn about my mother's side of the family, the human side. I already had a large dislike for it.
The bell rang, finally, and I headed inside the doors before anyone else.
