Luna glared menacingly at the disobedient mirror with such a stare that even people passing by shivered. She willed it to show her the sparkling world it contained, but - try as she may - she only saw her own beautiful reflection on its glassy surface.
“UGH!” She screeched as she threw the mirror to the floor. In a tornado of white fabric she brought her knees close to her face, hunched up her shoulders and buried her face into her knees in a frustrated way. After countless moments of wallowing in her self-pity she heard soft, graceful foot steps come towards her.
She buried her face even deeper into her knees and tightened her hold around them. The footsteps stopped for a second and then she heard her mirror being picked up. Her jet black left eyebrow twitched out of anger just thinking about the darn thing.
“Luna?” beckoned a soft voice that sounded so beautiful that it was almost seducing her to listen to everything it said.
“Luna, don’t be like this.” Suddenly the voice seemed as if it was only a foot away rather than a couple of metres.
“Look at me.” It commanded her this time - right by her ear. Luna was so surprised that without thinking about it she slammed her fist into the face of the person calling her. The dull, (though loud), thud of someone falling echoed throughout the room.
“I AM SO SORRY!!! ARE YOU OKAY?!” yelled Luna frantically. The stunned figure of Starling looked up at her with his hand on his cheek. He was simply confused for a while then he slowly got up.
“Wow. I think that was your best one yet!” He replied. A slow, confused smile appeared on Luna’s face, but it quickly disappeared when she saw Starling wince from his smile. She closed her eyes, weaved her fingers together and stood in silence for a second. Then she grinned while watching Starling. Slowly the purple and blue bruise that she’d given him started fading. He touched it; lightly at first and then digging his finger into his cheek.
“Ah, so much better.” He said with a crooked smile. “Now what were you raging about? Was it this mirror?”
“Yes. Once again, it has stopped working. Oh how the wretched thing indulges in taunting me.”
“Well, you yourself give it so much importance that this is to be expected. If we were in the human world as you desire, then my wound would not have healed so quickly and I’d be stuck with a throbbing, ugly mark for weeks.”
Luna didn’t have anything to say to that so she turned her head away in a stubborn, self righteous way with her nose turned upwards. She never admitted defeat she just resigned her case for another time. That’s just how she was; stubborn as a bull but at the same time soft as a sheep.
