Chapter 11:- Edge of town
Father Garrison hung by the open double doors as Mara made her way across the warm sidewalk. While the House of Worship was in the center of town, her destination lay on its very edge, where clusters of houses gave way to blowing fields. Mara strode in its direction with purpose, eyes on the horizon as the building grew. Its solid brick structure extended in a U to embrace the fenced courtyard inside. Every window opened out onto the gardens, and on every sill hung a green box of fresh soil. Mara wrinkled her nose. Everyone knew the place stank.
