Chapter 18:- The woman
The crows on the power lines flocked to the bread immediately. The woman smiled at the birds, then removed a pair of old cloth gloves from the pouch at her side. Sliding her delicate fingers into each glove, she tiptoed down the stone path that separated the two halves of the garden to a patch that looked like it had seen recent work. She kneeled in the dirt, close to where the dorm brick and fence chain met. Her steady gaze as Mara approached made Mara think of the fence that separated them, and the razor wire that topped it.
