Chapter 19:- Leaving
The woman went back to work and Mara quickened her pace. She couldn’t look too regretful about leaving the garden fence. Like Sister Tammy she took pills to keep her from visiting the women’s dormitories. She was pure. Holy. Everyone else knew it, too—why else would their silence be so respectful? She rounded the corner of the dorm, nothing in front of her but brick and field. She wondered if the woman would be there on her second circuit of the building, or if she would be left alone with the beauty of the flowers. She dreamt of solitude.
