Chapter 21:- Avoidance
The woman avoided her eyes the same way Mara had Father Garrison’s. She ran hands over her orange hair so it fell on her shoulders. “I—I’m fine,” she stammered.
Mara frowned, realizing she had spoken before she meant to. The inquiry came out naturally, the concern of one woman for another. She spoke quickly to cover herself. “You’re not hurt? I’ll call for a doctor.”
“No!” She raised her hands to the fence, but the regret on her face was turned to the spilt seeds. “I’m fine.” She raised the hem of her dress to show a healthy ankle.
