Chapter 27:- End-of-shift
The end of Mara’s shift came as a blessing. Each circle around the dorms made her more aware of the shadows that moved inside the windows. Lunch came and several women came outside to eat their food in the shade of the gardens. Mara searched them for a sign of the red-haired woman. Mara released a breath she didn’t know she was holding when the woman wasn’t there. The lunch group watched Mara with wary eyes, the same way the receptionists did. Mara pretended not to notice. It was then that she started counting the hours until she could leave.
