Chapter 49:- Wrong
Hurt filled Judith’s eyes. She stopped following Mara behind the fence. “I—I’m sorry,” she said. “I thought….” Her bright eyes flicked away for the first time, falling to the ground. Her hand tightened around the fence that separated them. “You looked like you needed a friend.”
Mara wondered which one of them she was really describing. “Well, you were wrong.”
“I’m sorry,” Judith repeated. Her head lowered.
Mara raised her hands. “Don’t worry about it.” She nodded a quick, embarrassed goodbye to Judith and went on her way. “Peace be with you, Sister Judith.”
Judith watched her walk away.
