Chapter 1:- New Kids on the Block I

"Moody," she murmured as the car drove past the sign "Welcome to Moody".

"Hmm... wonder if there're vampires in this town..."

"Stop saying depressing things. Your love for all things horror needs to have its limit."

"So does your love for all things music-ky."

"That's not even a word," Max scoffed and laughed.

Say stuck out her tongue at him. Vic merely chuckled as he listened to his children's banter. It was always about the same thing, but he never gets bored hearing them.

The car pulled to a stop in front of a quaint white-washed house. The houses around them were built in semi-circle, with a small garden right in the middle, and only one route in and out.

"Say. Max. We're here."

The three of them stepped out of the car, looking at their new house and the houses surrounding it.

Say let out a disappointing sigh. "What a misleading name," she muttered.

"Guess there are no vamps in this town," Max said, laughing.

"Are you the new family moving in?"

They turned around to find a girl sitting on the porch steps next door, smiling.

Max swallowed. "Or maybe there are," he said to himself.

Say rolled her eyes in disgust, not even bothering to correct her brother of how utterly ridiculous his statement sounded. Instead, she side-stepped her brother and her father, heading straight towards the girl next door.

"I'm Say. I'm saying hello for those guys too, since I'm the only one who can function in these situations," she said matter-of-factly.

The girl looked up at her, blinking. Then she smiled and got to her feet. "Nice to meet you, Say," she said as she extend a hand. "My name's Hetty."

Say nodded as she shook Hetty's hand. She frowned when she saw her dumbstruck brother finally making his way towards them.

"And that's my idiot brother, Max," she said, nodding at her brother who was smiling dumbly at Hetty.

"H-Hi," Max said as he shook Hetty's hand, ignoring the fact that Say had just made a rude comment about him. "I'm Max."

"Ah. Yes. Nice to meet you," Hetty said, her smile wavering. "Um. Can you... let go now?"

Max blinked, looked down and blushed. He released Hetty's hand and smiled sheepishly. Say rolled her eyes and sighed.

Hetty offered to show them around town when they have finished moving. Max said yes before Say could say anything.

Later, when they had finally unloaded their bags from the car, Max got a severe scolding from his sister.

"You are such an embarrassment," Say finished with an angry growl as she stomped into her new room.

Not a moment later, she heard through the walls of her room her brother strumming on his guitar, trying to make up a song about Hetty.

Say closed her eyes, sighed and fished out her phone. She turned on the music player and raised the volume high, so that it drowned out her brother's lovesick voice...
