Chapter 1:- The Masked Life

I sat up in the queen sized bed stretching out my back and smiling to myself. The dim sunlight poured in through the curtains lighting up my entire room, causing the light blue and green to literally glow. I then twisted my body until my feet touched the soft white carpet, life was awesome being me. I yawned standing up slowly from the bed then, I quickly walked to my laptop and opened it up having my screen light up and my little IM box pop up with tons of my friends online. Suddenly little tiny screens began to pop up throughout my desktop and one by one I clicked on them combining them onto one large screen where twenty little webcam videos came up.

“Leyna!” The first video came up and it was a girl from my school holding up different makeup.

“What do you think I should go with?” She switched one eye shadow color from one hand to another, I smiled to myself, everyone came to me with their problems, I had so much power in my hands it was ridiculous. I was one of the most popular girls at school and everyone seemed to go to me for my approval in hopes of being brought into the in crowd, kind of depressing of what people would actually do to get accepted somewhere. I smiled to myself, thankfully I was already given all the characteristics needed to be popular.

“Definitely the purple” I spoke quickly walking into my closet and grabbing the hideous uniform I planned on burning once school was over.

“Thanks Leyna!” The webcam quickly shut off and the next one popped up.

“Leyna babe!” I rolled my eyes walking toward the screen to see one of Blake’s friends smirking on the camera.

“Brad, you really got to get over yourself” I was about to exit out when his yell stopped my cursor from hitting the X.

“Leyna! You can’t go on dating Blake for the entire year, come on one date!” I watched as Brad held up one finger a pleading look on his face. The thing that was even more depressing then girls trying to be popular, was guys who’d lose all dignity trying to go out on a date with me.

“Bye Brad” I rolled my eyes starring at the camera with annoyance, and without a second thought I hit the X and the next little screen popped up. Waiting for the camera to load I walked over to my walk in closet grabbing other clothing that I needed when I heard two voices.

“Leyna were having boy problems! What do you think we should do?” I looked up to see the Carson sisters with sad looks on their faces. I turned around sighing dragging myself to the screen.

“Kick up the skirts a little ladies, it doesn’t hurt to show some skin” I forced a smile waving and then closing my laptop, that was enough drama for one day. Sometimes people were just pathetic, I was surprised that they even survived this long in Malibu. Yes, Malibu, the city I currently lived in, the city where the kids get what they want from daddy’s credit card, and where the beaches are so hot, that if you don’t have the right look this isn’t the place for you. Sounds awesome or what?  Malibu was the right city to live in, and the hottest place on earth.

I stripped off my clothing and threw on the hideous red and white plaid skirt, along with the white polo, and the god forsaken white socks and red shoes, this uniform totally needed a seventeen magazine makeover even if the school didn’t think so. I groaned seeing my messy hair in the mirror, and after fifteen long minutes I finally got the brown waves just perfect flowing onto my shoulders. I grinned in the mirror brushing my teeth and then doing my makeup. I wore a light brown allowing my dark blue eyes to pop incredibly. After I was ready I grabbed my backpack and ran down the stairs into the kitchen to see my little sister at the long dining table.

“Hey Katie” I smiled running by her and ruffling her brown curly hair making a pout form on her lips.

“Morning Miss. Snow, what do you want for breakfast this morning?” I looked up to see the maid putting on an apron and smile politely. I answered with a shrug and pulled out a chair plopping down in the seat fixing my lipstick.

“How about some eggs and toast? Make sure you don’t burn the toast this time, oh and the eggs, if you could just use the whites, the yolk has so many carbs it’d just be horrible for me to eat” I continued to stare into my compact rubbing my lips together mixing  the red and pink lip-gloss I had just combined.

“Miss. Snow, you’ll be late for school if I make eggs, wouldn’t you just want some cereal?” The compact snapped shut in my hand and I turned around lifting my eyebrows feeling the annoyance burn through my body and the tension rise in the room.

“You know Stephanie, you are the maid, and my personal issues are not your concern, if I asked for eggs I’d appreciate you getting right on it, after all that’s why we hired you” A grin came across my lips as I stood up from the chair, Stephanie’s face had turned pale and a grim expression came on her face.

“Oh Miss. Snow, I didn’t mean it like-“ I brought my hand up and closed my eyes stopping her in mid sentence.

“You talking is making me late, so why don’t you start cooking Betty Crocker?” Stephanie bowed her head down in shame and bit her lip turning around and turning on the stove. What was up with these maids lately, who did they think they were, my mother? I rolled my eyes angrily sitting back down in the chair to hear footsteps from the stairs. When I looked up my mom was walking quickly down the steps late for work, as always. I was surprised she’d managed to make it to work without my dad, every single time he’d live for one of those dumb business trips my mom would turn into this nervous wreck who’d never pay attention to her surroundings, panic 24/7, and most importantly, be later every single day to anywhere she had a appointment to.

“Morning girls” She walked quickly across the table grabbing her briefcase and opening it once double checking that all her paperwork was there.

“Mommy aren’t you going to eat breakfast with us this morning?” Katie looked up from her bowl of froot loops to stare at my mom with big blue eyes filled with sadness; her lip bulged out into a pout making my mom open her mouth hesitantly.

“I can’t this morning hun, I’m...running late” She reached across the table giving my sister a kiss on her cheek, without a thought I lifted up my head and glared at her.

“Aren’t you always late?” I scoffed, my mom turned around scowling at me.

“Young lady, don’t you ever disrespect me like that” I hated how my mom automatically began yelling me when I was trying to be honest and make her realize what she was doing wasn’t affecting me, because obviously it had no impact on my life, but was affecting Katie. My sister was only seven years old and her own mother didn’t attend her kindergarten graduation because she had a big meeting, it just sounds like a whole bunch of crap if you ask me, but my mom of course thought otherwise.

“Whatever mom” I spoke bitterly standing up from the table and grabbing my backpack. I was walking toward the front door when I heard Stephanie call out.

“Leyna aren’t you going to eat?” I turned around to see Stephanie with my plate in her hand and a spatula in the other.

“Don’t call me Leyna, its Miss. Snow to you” I hissed opening the front door to hear my mother gasp.

“Leyna Marie Snow! You turn around and apologize this instant” The pitch my mother hit could have shattered glass if she screamed a little louder. I could hear the anger boil, in fact I could see it when her face flushed and her expression became bitter.

“No mom! Why don’t you get out of my life and stop bitching at me” I began walking out the door, knowing that was probably the worst thing I could say to an already semi-crazy woman, and then something I heard from inside the house made my muscles tighten. After my mom growled angrily, she finished up our fight with a sentence that made me know something bad was going to happen.

“Leyna when you get back, your father and I have a lot to discuss with you” The door then slammed shut behind me and I groaned dreading of what was to happen when I got home. But my anger and stress all faded away quickly when I saw the familiar black Ferrari pull up into my driveway. The door then popped open, and my boyfriend Blake, came out with sunglasses and his Leatherman jacket on.

“Morning Babe” He spoke taking off the glasses and smirking.

“Morning Blake” I smirked running toward him and throwing my arms around his neck. When I pulled away he pulled me into a rough kiss making me smile with joy.

“So were late anyways...I say we take this car up to the lake, and you know” He pulled me closer to his chest a grin plastered onto his face, I watched smirking and giggling.

“I so would Blake, but my mom totally killed my mood this morning” I frowned, Blake’s expression became annoyed and he released the grip he had on my shoulder while I walked toward the passenger side of his car.

“Doesn’t she always?” He questioned sarcastically, I felt a tug at my chest and I looked up confused at his reaction.

“Blake what’s the matter with you?” I opened the door and slid into the car waiting for him to start the engine.

“Leyna, we’ve dated for a year, don’t you think that’s enough waiting?” I looked up at him and frowned shaking my head laughing.

“Yes it is enough, but just give me sometime Blake” He turned the key in the ignition and the engine roared to life, but Blake didn’t reply or make any movements, instead he kept his jaw clenched angrily and pulled out of the driveway driving toward school.

“Leyna I can’t wait forever, I have needs too” He growled driving a little bit faster. I don’t know why but I let a laugh escape and then I starred at him with a smile on my lips.

“Jesus, you say it like it’s something you honestly need, come on Blake, before I dated you I went out with a total ass, I just don’t want to jump in so fast” A sarcastic laugh came out of Blake’s mouth once again, and then he slowly turned his head to face me.

“So what I’m just another ass?” I frowned seeing the school building come up, I really didn’t want to leave Blake to go to first period with tension between us.

“No it’s not like that; I don’t want it to be like that, in this car”

“This car? It’s a Ferrari Leyna, there isn’t a better way to go” I groaned and rolled my eyes to stare at him. Stupid guys...they can be so ignorant at times, he thought just because was the most expensive thing he owns that it would be the best thing for both of us…ignorant ass.

“Give me two days ok?” Blake’s annoyed expression faded into excitement and his lips curved up into a smirk and slowly but surely I felt the mood lighten in the car.

“Two days it is” The car pulled into Blake’s usual parking space and we both got out, soon after, he walked over and pulled me into a kiss pulling away.

“See you later Leyna” I smiled and touched his face smirking.

“Sooner then you think. How about after 2nd period, my locker?” Blake nodded biting his lip and kissing me one more time. We were kissing roughly when a cough brought me into reality and I looked up to see my two best friends glaring at Blake.

“Leyna Snow! Look at you getting your flirt on” I turned around to see my best friend Chloe Dasten nudging Ashley Web my other best friend too look at me and Blake.

“Aren’t they adorable?” Ashley squealed sarcastically, they never really liked Blake that much, something about the way he acts, or how his natural being just gives a bad name to every guy in the world.

Chloe and Ashley both walked over, Ashley then placed her hand on Blake’s shoulder and smiled quickly.

“I hope we aren’t interrupting something” Her playful smile quickly turned into a smirk, and Blake’s face flushed red with anger.

“Yes you are, actually” He spat rudely; I felt a knot form in my chest causing me to laugh loudly and get in the middle of them.

“Blake, I’ll talk to you later?” I smiled playfully, the angry scowl faded and he smirked pulling me into a deep kiss making both Ashley and Chloe growl, and partially hiss when he pulled away.

“Later for sure” He placed a stray hair behind my ear and walked away glaring one last time at Chloe and Ashley.

“Skanks” He whispered under his voice forcing a polite smile.

“Womanizer” Ashley yelled, Blake’s body stiffened but he strained himself to walk forward, and slowly he disappeared into the crowd.

“Why the hell do you always do that? I swear if he dumps me because of you two” I growled raising my voice about to yell at them some more, but suddenly they both engulfed me in a large hug making me laugh.

“Leyna we need to talk to you about something” Chloe and Ashley both pushed me while walking toward the front of the school. Blake had disappeared and Chloe was looking around cautiously.

“It’s about Blake” I starred at her pretending to be shocked, honestly I wasn’t, everything was always about him and how he was such a horrible guy, and how he had been cheating on me with some girl.

“Oh god, what this time?” I asked rolling my eyes and crossing my arms over my chest seeing several girls’ wave and smile at me.

“Hey Leyna!” I smiled back not wasting my time waving.

“He’s cheating on you…with Victoria!” A laugh burst out of my mouth and I starred at them still cracking up.

Victoria? Sure…he wouldn’t go for her if she threw her clothes off in front of him” I cracked up even harder trying to picture her with him. Victoria compared to me was smaller and a cheerleader, I was a volleyball player. She was of course fake looking with hundreds of pounds of makeup packed onto her face. She was skinny, had no curves, no chest so she supposedly wore a stuffed push up bra, and in other words looked like little boy who was about to hit puberty.

“Oh yea he would, that damn player would throw himself on a skank like that any day” Ashley stated forcing a smile at a group of freshman girls who were waving viciously at us trying to get our attention.

“We saw them” Chloe whispered under her breath, I starred at her lifting my eyebrow.

“You know, he isn’t the only guy with blonde spiked hair that wears a Leatherman jacket”

“Yea but how funny is it that he’s the only one that has smudges of red lipstick on his collar when coincidentally Victoria wore the same color that day?” Chloe spoke a smirk rising on her lips.

“I wear red lipstick genius” I pointed to my lips and touched my pointer finger to my bottom lip showing her the color.

Both Chloe and Ashley just starred at me with no emotion.

“What the heck happened to the promise we made, that if one of us suspects that the others boyfriend is cheating on them, we’d believe them?”

I turned around and shrugged at my two best friends.

“I don’t have proof” Chloe and Ashley just watched me as I walked away toward my first period.
