Chapter 1:- Crash
It was the first dry day in April that year. For a boarder, that was tough. I had a strong desire to skate. I wanted to feel the wind whipping across the hairs on my arms. I did something that I had never done before, as I pushed the numbers on my phone and heard the voice of my boss on the other end, I explained to her that I was sick. I wasn't sick, who was I trying to fool. I just needed to feel the vibration of my wheels gliding across black concrete.

And, this is where my story begins....

April 21, 2008 at approximately 2:00PM

Daveeed, my next door neighbor dared me to skate down his extremely steep driveway. I took the dare. I have always been a bit of a "dare-devil". The kind that would try everything at least one time. I had no fear. I didn't know that this would be the end.

So, this is me, skating quickly, my right foot pushing off for more speed. Quickly I go. The wind sweeping over my body, birds chirping their little songs, and sounds of the bus stopping and going, stopping and going, dropping little kids to their homes.

I can see Rutker and Lucas running home, from the end of our block. Rutker eager to get on his board too, this was our routine. Every sunny day, we would skate. At that exact moment in time, I was gliding down David steep driveway, with the wind passing over my skin so quickly. I was where the driveway met the street and Lucas was in my path. I thought quickly and jumped. I guess this is when my legs hit the concrete. The rest is a mystery.

Suddenly sirens, ambulances, and cops were standing next to me. My neighbors were telling me to not get up. "Don't stand up" "Don't stand up". I don't remember what happened or what was going on, but this story has been told to me.

I am lying in a bed, at VCU hospital in Richmond, Virginia. This is when calling in sick, smacked me in the ass. My boss, the lady I nannied for, was now my doctor. I got caught in a lie. At that point, the lie didn't matter. My life was the only thing anyone cared about. No one knew how bad the damage was, no one knew if I would survive.

My Mom and Dad, caught the first available flights. So that they could be by my side. I can't imagine getting that phone call. Terry and John, your daughter has been in a really bad accident. Her prognosis isn't good, you need to come to Virginia. When my parents arrived I was in a medically induced coma. Doctors do this, so that the brain can stop swelling.
