Conor sat cross-legged on a soft stone. He waited until the powerful leader of the Crossworlds Champions opened his eyes before asking his question. At length, the massive cat awakened.
"Maya, how is it that those who created the Crossworlds do not also control the Five Keys of the Creators?"
"It was always meant to be so," said the Lord of the Champions. "In their infinite wisdom, the creators fashioned the keys from organic matter. Thus, the power of the talismans would forever shift and change according to the needs of the system."
"Then the creators do not maintain dominion over the keys?" asked Conor.
"In a sense, they do not, but by denying distinct rights of their own, they also prohibit others from claiming the keys."
"The Circle of Evil?"
"Yes, Conor."
