Chapter 1:- Persistence
Rain.
Persistence felt a few drops on her cheek and hesitated as she shut the front door behind her. Maybe she would not go out after all.
She felt no need for company just now, in fact just the opposite. She would have preferred to stay in her favorite chair and finish the book her sister sent her last week. It was a pulling book, with suspenseful plot-twists and an enchanting hero and heroine.
She clenched her teeth and began walking into town.
Working as a nurse at the hospital, Persistence kept long hours and she genuinely enjoyed the work, though, now and then, she wondered what it would be like to sleep when it grew dark and wake with the sun. The hospital, like all hospitals, was always busy. You met all kinds of people there, for everyone gets sick or hurt, and Persistence liked people.
She also liked being alone now and then.
She glanced at the sky, sighed, and quickened her pace, determined to be home again before it really began to pour. She wiped the wet from her eyes as the tiny drops turned into a steady drizzle. She would buy a car when she got her next raise. Then she wouldn’t have to walk a mile to buy…
She stopped.
What was she going to town for? She couldn’t remember. How discouraging the day was turning out to be. Her first full day off in weeks and nothing was going right. All she wanted was to be home, in her chair, eating…oh that was it.
She resumed her walk.
