Chapter 1:- Wake Up, Quick
"Keara, Ethan, wake up! Quick!" the urgent sound of their grandfather's voice cause both Keara and Ethan to sit bolt upright.

"Why Grandpa Jim? Why did you wake us up? Is it morning?" Keara was always full of questions thought her grandfather.

Grandpa Jim was moving quickly around the room gathering clothes and shoes for each of them so they could dress quickly. Since Grandpa Jim usually moved at a slower pace, both children knew something important was happening.

"A fisherman from the village was just here, he found a whale tangled in a fishing net. If we cannot help the whale, it could die."

Puerto Lopez Ecuador fishermen
Keara and Ethan both jumped to their feet. They loved to go whale watching off the coast of Ecuador with their grandfather. The thought of a whale dying brought tears to Keara's eyes.

"Whales have to breathe air to live, and if the whale cannot get to the surface, it will drown" said Keara although this was something little brother Ethan already knew.

"I know Keara! I know!" Ethan pulled on his pants and tried to reach his sandals at the same time. He almost stood on his head before Grandpa Jim caught his arm and righted him.

"That's why whales spout, they are breathing the air" replied Ethan.

"Alright, let's go, the boat is waiting for us. We have to hurry!" said Grandpa Jim leading them both by the hand hurrying for the docks.

Keara knew this must be important! Grandpa Jim never rushed them, or rushed around. Not since they had arrived in Ecuador.

Keara let go of her grandfather's warm hand and raced toward the boat.
