Chapter 29:- Apology
Rose and I are facing each other from opposite ends of her kitchen. We are home alone and there is absolute silence. We are both red in the face and out of breath.
“What was I supposed to do?” she asked me, more quietly than we had spoken for the last half hour.
“Something. Anything.”
“You left with him and you didn’t come back. How could I have known, how could I have done anything?”
“You couldn’t have,” I sighed.
“I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry, too, Rose.” I turned around and walked out. When I looked back, she was watching from the window. I waved and then kept walking.
