Chapter 6:- Upstairs
"Ah, I see."
I can't tell whether my mother believes me.
"Well, you should change clothes anyway.
You can't walk around in your uniform all day."

She smiles at me,
knowing how proud I was when I was finally old enough
to go to Hanamisasagi Middle School
and put on the uniform for the very first time.

"I know. I'll do it right now."
My smile feels weak, and I hurry upstairs,
so I don't have to tell her more lies,
that feel so terribly easy to tell.

My tiny, crammed room has been tidied up,
and I feel even more guilty.
I take my time to pick my clothes.

The yellow dress or the blue one?
White, for the innocence that has been destroyed?
Or maybe lilac,
like the wild flowers I saw on the way here?

I want to go and ask my brother for help,
but I can't.
I know that he'd know that something is wrong,
and my brother can't be lied to,
not even today,
with the world being all different than before.
