Chapter 1:- Lost gloves and mysterious guest
Must we go? grumbled Alice, sitting on the bed watching her sister get ready
"You know we don't have a choice" said Jennet
"But you know I hate social gatherings, can't I just stay here with Bebe?" asked Alice
"No, besides, father says we are going to be introduced to a new family who wish to move here." Jennet said as she was looking for her gloves
"Really, who, tell me who?"Alice said eagerly
"Get ready and in the carriage I will tell you" Jennet
"Hey that's not fair!" Alice cried
"Go!" jennet said sternly
"Fine" grumbled Alice
Alice walked out of her sisters room and went into hers she sat on her bed, and then she heard a knock on the door.
'Who is it" Alice asked
"It's me Miss Alice, Bebe may I come in?" asked bebe
"Yes come in' Alice said
Bebe opened the door carrying a dress and some shoes,
"Here let me help you with some of those things" Alice said as she grabbed some shoes
"Thank you" Bebe said in relief
"Let me guess, you've come to help me get ready" Alice said sarcastically
"Well with that attitude I'd say I'm forcing you to get ready" replied Bebe
Alice just let out a small chuckle
"Let's begin by curling your hair, come sit" said Bebe
Alice obeyed and sat there quietly, Bebe knew something was wrong usually Alice would talk to her about the resent dream she had or a story she made up.
"Miss Alice is something the matter?" bebe asked
Alice just let out a big sigh
"It's this gathering, I don't want to go, there's just going to be adults drinking rum, gambling and discussing the war, I'd rather stay here with you." Alice said
"Oh come now Miss Alice, I heard there is going to be a new family there and you never know they might have son who's your age." teased Bebe
"Bebe, you know my heart is set on only one person, my dearest Theodore Dawson."Alice said a swoony voice
"All right Miss Alice I'm done curling you hair, now let's get you into that dress."
Alice got up so that bebe can put on her corset
"Miss Alice" said Bebe
"Yes Bebe."
Well if it's not to bold to ask, has Mr. Dawson ever return your feelings? Asked Bebe
"Bebe you know nothing you say is to bold and no he has not return my feelings, I'm am 15 and he is 18 an i know for a fact that he is only interested in girls his age not someone like me , but a girl can dream right?" said Alice in a hopeful tone
"It's good to see that your hopeful" said bebe
Bebe finished putting on Alice's dress it was a light sky blue dress that was once her sisters, not to fancy but not to plain.
Alice looked at herself in the mirror chestnut brown hair medium brown eyes and pale white skin all of those features looked more beautiful in this sky blue dress.
"Oh Miss Alice you look lovely, let me get your gloves" said bebe as she walked out of Alice's room, at that moment Jennet walked into her room
Alice ... Well look at you, you're going to be the belle of the ball in that dress" Jennet says in astonishment
"I hope no one notices that this was your old dress." Alice said in a worried tone
"No, if they ask where you bought it say it was a gift and nothing more.' said Jennet
Just then Bebe walks into the room, "I'm sorry Miss Alice but I can't find your gloves" said Bebe
"That's so strange I can't seem to find mine either" said Jennet
"Oh , and we don't have money to buy new ones" said Alice
"Calm down miss I'm sure they will turn up." Said Bebe
"ALISON, JENNET IT,S TIME TO GO! screamed their father who was down stairs

Alice and her sister started walk down stairs down stairs Bebe followed
A man about 45 years of age was standing with his arm around women of 39, they were ready to head out the door when finally Alice and jennet where down stairs
Ah, there are my beautiful girls come we must hurry we can't be late. Said Mr. Bridge
You look beautiful my dears, by any chance have you seen my gloves? Asked Mrs. Bridge
Bebe looked surprised and confused
That's so strange I can't seem to find Miss Alice's or Jennets gloves either. Said Bebe
That is strange, well no matter I'm sure they will turn up. said Mrs. Bridges.

As they get in the carriage Alice is still wondering who these new people are

"The only thing I know is that its Mr. Dawson,s friends and they are from Tennessee. said Mr. Bridges
"Ah, now I see they're our enemies !" joked Alice
