Chapter 2:- Chapter 1 (Part 1)
“Wow, does that breeze ever feel good right now,” the young man, dressed in plain shabby peasant clothes, said wiping the sweat off his face as he stood resting against his long rake. Around him lay rich farm land, miles and miles of it in all directions, almost as far as the natural eye could strain to see. And within all this land filled with spots of freshly broken earth, many men surrounded him, working laboriously in the heat of the day; the sun shining brightly in the heavens above. Although in truth the sun was only moderately hot, to them who had been working in the fields all day, they might have wished to have debated that fact, should someone have had the audacity to try to tell them it.

“Ha-ha, yes, that breeze feels quite good after a long day’s sweat in the fields,” an older man laughed, his slowly graying hair rippling ever so slightly from the sudden and welcomed surprise of the afternoon breeze.

They were apart of a group of men from the nearby town who had been assigned the pleasant duty of breaking the field and planting the seeds for the future harvest. It was a long and arduous project for the men to undertake, but a required necessity if their rustic town was to survive another year in good prosperity. The men who had been chosen took quite pride in it, calling it a privilege of honor and in truth, it was.

Among these men, several young boys worked as well, three to be exact. It was their first time raking the fields, and a semi-initiation for becoming a young man, or so the town citizens had told them to get them to leave.

“Dear heaven, this has to be the hardest I think I’ve ever worked in my life!” one of the boys, his blonde hair dripping, exclaimed with a gasp, his rake digging into the ground with a loud plump.

Another boy let out a small, half hearted laugh, “Yeah, I can’t remember working this hard ever before.”

Next to the two, another boy continued to break the ground as he was shown many hours before by the town elders.

“Hey, what’s up with you? Aren’t you exhausted?” the blonde hair boy asked.

The one still raking, stopped and looked up, his face dripping with sweat, “Of-course!”

The two boys laughed at his expression.

“Then why are you not taking a break?” the curly haired boy, standing next to the blonde boy asked.

“Cause, what good would that do? I’ll simply fall behind and have to work even harder to catch up to the others,” he sighed.

“I tell ya Seth, you are the strangest boy in the entire land,” the two laughed.

He shrugged with a smile, “I am who I am.”

“Seth,” one of the men called with a bellowing voice from another stretch of field.

“Yes?” the boy replied looking behind him.

“Get over here, we need you in this area more than they need you over there,” he replied.

“R-Right,” the boy named Seth replied aloud.

He looked back at his two friends. They were both smirking.

“Have fun,” they laughed.

Seth nodded and began to run across the crop rows, until reaching the one where the man was that had called out to him.

The boy looked no younger than twelve, possibly soon approaching his monumental thirteenth birth year. His hair was a dirty brown, and his eyes shone and burst with a glowing and matching brown intensity. His face had a spirit of determination which was rare to find in such a young person and one which many looked forward to seeing mature as he grew older, most of all, by his mother and father.

“Here, take this, the ground here is harder to break,” one of the men nearby said, handing him a slightly more enforced rake, shoving it with force toward him.

Seth nodded and dropped the one he had already been holding. Grabbing the new sturdier rake from the man’s hands, he raised it high above him and with a strong downward motion slashed it hard against the ground. The earth beneath cracked and the rake soon began to break ground.
