Chapter 39:- Chapter 7 (Part 3)
Several more days gradually passed by, and although the town’s people were annoyed by the drastic change of temperature, they continued on with life, adjusting, as their ancestors had before them. There were many prayers sent out over those few days, some in groups of people, begging for a cease of the heat wave.
Before Rachel even realized it, the time to once again inform her father of her plans had come. It was merely several days away from being a week since the meeting was decided on between her and the boy. She did not intend to miss it.
She stretched out her arms and legs as she lay on top of her bed, staring at the ceiling. The heat had really taken a toll on her every day energy reserves.
It was nearing dinner. The sun slowly setting in the distance; its orange hue cast across the sky.
It was completely quiet, only the sound of her breathing audible to her young ears.
Suddenly the familiar sound of a whistle came from downstairs. It was time to eat. Jumping out of bed and walking out the bedroom door, she quickly made her way down the stairs towards the kitchen table, where her father had already begun to lay down their filled plates for the evening.
Taking a seat at the table, she waited for her father to sit as well.
“Hi honey,” he smiled taking his seat across from her.
“Hi daddy,” she smiled back.
“Now bow your head,” he said, and silently they prayed over their food before quickly raising their heads, their eating utensils primed to go straight to work.
“So how was your day?” he asked, scooping up a piece of potato.
“It was fine,” she replied.
“Well that’s good to hear,” he said.
How was she going to direct the conversation to what she needed? She knew she had to act fast.
“So, yea, I really enjoyed that trip I took last week,” she said, taking a sip of water.
“I can see that, you’re still talking about it,” he chuckled.
“Mhmm, it was quite fun,” she smiled.
“As I’ve already said, I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he replied.
“Yea, I really did, so much so, that I was wondering if I might be able to do it again,” she remarked.
“Again?” asked her father, somewhat disbelieving.
“Yea, um, I really enjoyed it, and I’d like it if I could do it some time again.”
“Well, sure, like when?” he asked curious.
“Two days from now,” she replied.
