Chapter 4:- Chapter 1 (Part 3)
Leaving the crowd of men, the procession and ceremony now having ended, Seth walked through the bustling crowd of towns’ people, sometimes being met with further comments of praise.

“Great work,” someone said as he pushed his way through.

“Just like your old man,” he heard another say.

“I remember when I was your age,” contemplated another man before Seth passed him with a smile.

Eventually he was able to break free of the behemoth of a crowd and find a street that was not over capacitated. Although being a town, it was quite large even so. So large, that to walk from one end to the next, would take a number of hours if traveling casually. However, even so, it was still very simple in design, closely resembling a small early medieval town situated in the European rolling hills.

Just as he was about to turn to make his way towards the usual spot that Zack and the other boys would meet up at, he heard someone call out his name.

“Seth,” a commanding masculine voice called out.

He knew instantly who it was and turned around, “What is it, father?”

“Your mother is preparing a feast at home in preparation for the festival, so don’t stay out longer than usual, be back a bit before the sun touches the earth,” his father replied.

“I understand,” Seth nodded.

“Good, and also, I’m very proud of you son,” his father said with a small smile before leaving.

Seth smiled back and nodded again; leaving down the street he was just about to turn down earlier. He picked up his speed and began to run across the poorly paved road, realizing that the faster he arrived, the longer the chance he’d have to stay.

As he ran down the stone road he turned right, heading down a dirt paved alley way before turning left, leading him to another dirt littered path. There were fresh footsteps on the ground, most likely from Zack and the others. He quickly ran down another alley way in the same manner that the freshly laid footprints on the ground had gone.

At the end of another alley, he emerged in a small open air area in the town that still had grass, a single tree, and was surrounded by an artificially built circular brick wall, separating it from the homes on the other side. Zack and his friends were sitting on the grass, chatting amongst themselves.

“Hey, Seth, you made it!” Zack winked.

“Yup,” Seth nodded, taking a seat on the ground, “I can’t stay that long though, my mother is making something special tonight for the festival, so I have to be home before sunset.”

“Sure, so quite a day, no?” he laughed, “I was just telling some of the younger ones here about our adult journey through the world.”

Seth sighed, peering at the disgruntled faces of the boys only but one year younger that sat near Zack.

“Hey! What do you mean “younger” ones?!” some of them angrily exclaimed.

Seth laughed, “It wasn’t as great as I’m sure Zack has been trying to tell you.”

“No?” they asked.

“Nope, it was backbreaking hard work all day; nothing fun or exciting to even mention about,” Seth sighed scratching his back.

“Thought so,” they sighed as well.

Zack pouted in disappointment.

“Can’t wait for the festival tonight, it’s going to be lots of fun,” said another boy excitingly.

“I hope that Sarah’s mother makes that treat like she did last year,” Zack replied.

“I remember those, they were really good,” a different boy piped in.

Seth looked up, ignoring the chatter nearby him, peering in the distance. Pure blue filled the sky above everywhere; however, one other object filled some of the view also, a mountain. A tall, wide and large mountain that stood a good distance in the west.

“You know,” Seth said slowly, “I wonder what the other side looks like.”

Zack and the other boy’s faces grew darker, their light hearted expressions quickly fading from them.

“You mean, you wonder what ‘they’ look like?” another boy, whose name was Feral, asked.

“Yea,” he replied.

“But we know what they are, they’re evil doers, God deniers, wicked….” Zack piped in.

“Well, that’s what we’ve been told, but we’ve never seen it with our own eyes,” Seth sighed.

“Would we want to see such evil? Would you want to witness such atrocity and wickedness? I think it’s a wonderful blessing that God placed that mountain there to obstruct the view of them, to divide us from one another,” Zack replied.

“I guess so,” he sighed still looking at the mountain, his view never faltering.

The sun slowly drifted lower, its orange hue beginning to spread across the late evening sky.
