Chapter 1:- Adrian Mason

Adrian opened the mailbox and quickly flipped through the mail.  The first letter was a bill for her parents, the second was also a bill, but the third letter was addressed to Adrian.  She looked at the familiar logo, CVA in green letters.  She tore open the letter and unfolded the cream colored paper.
"We are proud to inform you that Adrian Mason was accepted to Chase Valley Academy!" Adrian read out loud and smiled.  She re-folded the letter and placed it back into the envelope.  Adrian walked back up her driveway to her house.  She had walked only about thirty feet, but she was sweating.  It was a hot July day, she guessed that it was about ninety-five degrees out and it was only eleven o'clock in the morning.
Adrian opened the screen door and walked into the large kitchen.  Her mother and younger sister, Hillary, were sitting around the granite counter top eating blueberry muffins and drinking fresh lemonade.  Adrian loved her mother's famous lemonade, she made it almost everyday in the summer but the delicious taste never got old.
"Did you get the letter yet?" Hillary asked while sipping some of the cold nectar.
"I did!" Adrian exclaimed and handed the envelope to her mother, Kellie.  Kellie lifted out the piece of paper and quickly skimmed the contents.
"I'm so proud of you Adrian!  Come here honey!" Kellie replied and hugged her daughter.
"I guess playing basketball helped!" Adrian said.
"I bet it's what got you accepted!  You played five sports last year, plus that summer swim team.  You deserve this Adrian.  I'm so happy you made it!" Kellie said and handed the letter to Adrian.
"Talking about swimming, I have to get ready because we have practice in a half hour," Adrian replied and opened the refrigerator.  She poured herself half a glass of lemonade and quickly gulped it down.
"So you're going?" Hillary asked  a little confused.
"Yes Hillary, I'm going," Adrian explained and put the cup in the sink.  She rushed up the stairs to her bedroom to change into her bathing suite.
"Is Marika going?" Kellie called from at the bottom of the stairs.
"Yes, we need to pick her up!" Adrian called back and slipped the tight bathing suite on.  She grabbed her bag which held a towel, a water, her goggles, flippers, and cap.  She flung the backpack over her shoulder and slipped on her flip-flops.
"Does Hillary have dance today?" Adrian asked her mother as they walked outside into the heat.
"Yes, when I drop you off I pick her up and drop her off at Live and Dance," Kellie told her daughter and opened the car door.  Adrian put her long light blond hair up in a loose ponytail.  She rubbed her light blue eyes and put chapstick on her thin red lips.  She looked like her mother, while Hillary looked like her father.
"What sports are you playing at Chase Valley?" Kellie inquired and pulled out of the driveway.
"Since it's a high school I can only play three sports, one per season.  In the fall I'm playing soccer, basketball in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring.  If I can play more I will, but I'll be practicing almost everyday for hours," she explained.
"Just be on top of your game and remember that every person at that school has a scholarship.  You've got to bring 100% to each practice and game.  Intimidate," Kellie said.
"I know!  You say that almost every time I bring up the topic of Chase Valley!" Adrian joked as her mother turned into Marika's driveway.  Secretly Adrian was scared.  She didn't want to go to a prep school.  Most of all she didn't want other people to be better athletes than her.
