Home
I came across an old dirt road,
I hadn’t seen since I was young.
It lay forgotten in the depth of the
mind, of the adult I had become.
I traveled down it, just a mile or
so, and stopped along the way,
looking at a farmhouse which
lay there in rotten disarray.
I stood at the edge of the grass,
near the fenced off yard,
gazing at the ruined house
that lay there in disregard.
I observed its abandonment.
No one had lived in it for years.
Staring into the shambles, I felt
a sudden trace of tears.
I stumbled out into the rubble,
wading deep into its midst.
I closed my eyes in mourning,
realizing fates sad twist.
It’s funny where life takes us,
how far away that we may roam…
I used to live here once.
I used to call this home.
