I cried out, calling out my parents names over and over again, but as expected, there were no replies. I was getting nervous. Why was no one answering?
The loud crash that had sounded just a few minutes ago had woken me from my sleep.
I pulled back the covers to my bed, threw my feet over the side, and let my feet touch the cold wooden floor. Night’s chilled air encompassed my room. I shivered slightly before donning my throw blanket and wrapping it around my body.
I tiptoed towards my door. Slowly, I grabbed hold of the doorknob, and ever so slightly, twisted it, saying a silent prayer that it would not creak. Without making any noise, I slid out of my room, and stood against the wall of the long hallway on the second floor. No lights were on. That meant no one was awake. How could no one have heard the loud crash? I could hear its resounding noise echoing off the walls all the way from my own room.
I slid along the wall all the way to my parents room. I took a deep breath, twisted the doorknob, and stepped into the room. I gasped at what I saw.
They weren’t there.
No parents, nobody.
“M-mom? Dad?” I called out in a tone barely above a whisper.
No answer.
I moved towards their bed, threading my hands through the sheets to only find emptiness. Still, there was the lingering warmth telling me that their bodies had just been lying here.
A large rustle of wind came in through the window and I snapped my head in its’ direction. I cautiously walked over towards the window. I could feel my heart rate spike with each step that I took. I marveled at the sight I saw.
It was as if the moon was beckoning me. It seemed larger than normal, and it glowed yellow and green, making the night sky seem almost gloomier than ever before.
I saw them then - my parents. I eyed them peculiarly. What were they doing? Both of them were walking towards the oversized moon. I called out to them. They didn’t even turn around. What’s going on?
And where was Destiny? Were they really leaving my sister and I alone at home? I called out to them again, but this time, my shouting was cut off by a rough hand covering my mouth.
My eyes widened in panic and I struggled against the large hand that pulled me back away from the window and into the darkness. I let out an ear piercing scream, or it would have been, if anyone had been around to hear it.
