Chapter 1:- part one

The Other Side of the Glass

Elizabeth! Elizabeth!” a giggling Elizabeth ran down the hall. Anybody passing knew to step out of the way. All of a sudden, she froze, mid-giggle. “gotcha!” can a voice. The goblin King unfroze her. She started giggling again. I t was one of their favorite games. The King would chase her wherever. She was a human living with goblins. She lived there all her life. The King and Queen were her parents. She was soon to have a brother that she was very excited about.

“Elizabeth? Elizabeth?” She woke with a start. That was ten years ago. She had been five when her younger brother was born. She was now fifteen. She looked into the eyes of her mother.

“It’s time to get up.” Elizabeth sat up. Then she remembered that she was supposed to meet the elves that were coming. As the princess it was her job to greet them and welcome them. She wasn’t practically happy that they were coming, but she could let that be shown. She jumped out of bed.

“What time is it?” she asked her mother.

“You have a half and hour before they get here, if they are on time. But you are expected to be in the throne room in half an hour. Everything is out for you. your only job is to be polite.”

Elizabeth sighed. She was constantly running late. The ’human specialist’ claimed that all human’s run late. Elizabeth ran to the wardrobe. There hanging was a red dress that she was supposed to wear. Most days her dress was one with not to many underskirts, but today she would have to wear her fanciest one besides dancing one. She would have much rather have worn a green dress but her father didn’t want her looking like an elf.  She got dressed in fifteen minutes with the help of her Lady-in-Waiting.

She and her brother were to enter from the back stariway. They were the first to greet them. Elizabeth didn't want to meet any of them, but she had to any way. She made her way past the courtyard. It was in the middle of the castle which was the safest place to be in case of attack. The guests would be staying the closest to the courtyard. She waited by the entrance for her father and brother. Even though she was always late she was usually the first one to arrive.

She didn't see the elves until she entered, so she didn't know what they looked like. what she had pictured was people weraing what looked like leaves but weren't and slightly green skin.  They did wear green, but it was silk, and they had tan skin. But it was nautrally tan. And beautiful.

Elizabeth stopped for half of a second. But was still in line with her brother, Net, as he was called, and they walked up to the podium. Net was to make the first speach. Elizabeth didn't even listen. She knew what it was about. Peace, friendship, and the peace treaty.

As she heard the crowd applaud, she stood up. Her speach was completly off of the top of her head.

"I know that I am not a goblin, but I do know that they are good people. I was orphaned when I was not even a year old and My father took me in. You can lay your trust in them and they will trust you."

That was all she said. Her parents walked in next. As her father sat down on the throne, her mother made her way over to the front row of elves. Elizabeth stared in shock, as did Net. Then she realized that there was an empty seat, and there were guards all around. She still didn't like that her mother was near all these strange people.

Looking at all these people that had once been their, not really enimies, but people she didn't like, was something that was completely unnatural. Her father had finished with his speach. A man walked up to her father and shook hands with him. They both signed the treaty. After the ceremony (that seemed completely useless to Elizabeth) was over, the man walked back to his seat in the very front and center. When he sat down he caught Elizabeth's eye. He smiled at her like he was her friend, but Elizabeth glared at him. He turned to the man next to him and whispered to him and they both turned back to Elizabeth. She looked away, Uncomfortable. She leaned closer to Net unconsciencely. By then, the people in the back had started to get up.
