Chapter 1:- Prologue

She had been lying on her side, toward the open window. A faint breeze cooled her warm face as she slept.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes when she felt a weight leaning against her arm. She inhaled the smell of whiskey and realized it was her father… drunk and kneeling down next to her bed with his rough, calloused hand under her pajama top.

He slobbered her face with kisses; his breath stunk from too much booze.

“Dad! Stop it! What are you doing? Get away from me,” she cried, tears rolling down her cheeks. She trembled as she tried to sit up, and then backed into the wall as his fat arm pushed down on the edge of the mattress.

He grabbed the neck of her pajamas, and she pushed him away as hard as she could. At the sound of her pajama top ripping, she quickly gathered the edges together in a vain attempt to cover herself.

Terrified, she continued to shake, when he finally stood up. He threw her a dirty look and stumbled out of the room. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

Still trembling, she jumped out of bed to shut and lock her door. She shivered as she watched the curtains gently blowing in the cool night air. She glanced out the window as she climbed back into bed and noticed it was still dark, the full moon bright against the murky sky.

She pulled her sheet tightly around herself and curled into a fetal position. Mad and embarrassed, it sickened her that he would touch her that way. She hated him, and she promised herself she would come up with a plan to leave and never have to see him again.

This was her last thought as she drifted into a fitful sleep.
