Once at home I helped my mom cook for a while then went to my room doing homework. The moment I got upstairs, I checked my cell phone. No new message or missed call. I had finished most of my homework when someone rang the doorbell.
"Mizuki, can you open? I'm busy at the moment!" said my mom.
"Hai!" I went down and when I opened the door I found Mei standing in front of her mom. She had a little duffle bag slung around her shoulder. But her mother had a bigger one on the ground next to her.
"Hello, I'm sorry for the last minute notice, but I hope it's alright if Mei stays with you for the upcoming two weeks? I have an important meeting in Paris. And I'll have to leave in the early morning." she explained. The thing is, she always has to attend important meetings. She's the co-president of an important corporation here in Japan.
"Of course it's not a problem! Does she have everything she might need?"
"Yes, she has everything. I also have an envelope with money if she needs anything more." she said handing me a white envelope with her daughter's name written neatly on it.
"I'll make sure she has everything she needs." I said reassuring her mother, who was in a hurry.
She turned to Mei. "Mei, my little angel, I'll be back as soon as I can, meanwhile take good care of yourself." she gave a little kiss on the child's forehead.
"Bye mommy." said Mei as her mother handed me the bigger duffle bag.
"Goodbye honey." she replied.
She looked at me and smiled. "Thank you again, Mizuki. I hope I'm not disturbing any plans."
Mei's mother said as she started off. "Come in Mei." I brought in the bag and closed the door.
"Who is it, Mizuki?" my mom asked from thekitchen.
"It's Mei, her mom got a last minute call for a meeting and she's staying with us for two weeks." I explained as I climbed the stairs, with Mei just in front of me. I helped Mei unpack before finishing homework.
That night I was done with homework much faster than usual. I don't why it was that way. Later, when Mei was sleeping, and mom was cleaning up the last couple of things in the kitchen I was reading a great book in bed. The kind that has adventure, romance, a bit of fantasy, and some historical aspects to them. I heard my cell phone. I got a new message. I quickly put down my book despite the fact that it was my favorite passage (I have read this book at least three times before).
It was just as I thought, a message from Ryo. I was smiling. I don't know why though, I hadn't even opened the message yet.
"Hello, let's walk to school together tomorrow morning." I smiled.
"Sure. Where do we meet?"
"At the end of your street. Is that ok?"
"Yeah, that's great!" I thought my message would be the end of our conversation tonight, but I was surprised when he replied.
"I have a free tomorrow 2 classes after lunch. You?" I couldn't believe that he had the same free as me! What are the chances?! Our school is humongous, yet it happens to be that our schedules are really similar.
"Yeah I have a break too at that time."
"Great, let's do something. Anything."
"I'm out of inspiration for the moment, sorry." It was true in a way. Where could we go? I don't usually go out that much. And when I do it's usually around the same places.
"That's ok, we'll think of something tomorrow." I was saved... "What are you doing?"
"I'm talking to you." I really wanted to tease him just at the moment.
"Silly, I meant before that." I laughed. I couldn't help it.
"I was reading. You?"
"Thinking of you." I could feel my heart banging loudly as I read the message over and over. I could feel my face growing hot as well. My phone rang again. I remembered I hadn't replied.
"Good night, have sweet dreams." I quickly replied,
"Good night. <3" I sent it after having typed, erased, then retyped the heart a couple of times. I put my phone on my night table. I fell asleep surprisingly quickly, and my last thoughts were of Ryo.
