Chapter 29:- Lunch with the Gang

The morning classes went by quite slowly. We were studying a poem that I already knew by heart. I didn't learn anything new. In the next class, Ryo texted me. Of course my phone was on silent. I never turned it off during class anymore.
"Meet me at the main cafeteria at the beginning of lunch. We'll be eating with the guys." said the message.
"Okay, see you there =)" I sent back.
I was happy in a way, that he didn't forget about me. But would we not have our usual lunches in the park, now that the gang was here? Well that didn't matter for now. Besides, I was interested to know what the principal thought of a group of four students suddenly wanting to transfer to our school. That would be interesting... For the remainder of class I thought of different possible faces the principal could've made when he learned the news and met the guys. Would he have been happy, afraid, confused, or just surprised? I also started to wonder what kind of nonsense Kyo would have said in the principal's presence... Lunch would be interesting...

When I arrived at the lunch room, I saw Ryo chatting with his friends. Kyo saw me and waved excitedly. As I walked over to them, a few girls turned to look at me. They were probably wondering why Kyo had waved at me, and not to one of them. I tried not to pay attention to them.
"Does she know them?" I heard a girl whisper to another. I just walked past, doing my best to ignore them and greeted Ryo and the others.
"Hey guys!" I said happily.
"Hey Mizuki!!" said Kyo with a broad grin. I beamed at Ryo. He winked back at me with a smile. I felt my cheeks grow hot.
"Let's find a table, I'm starving!" said Sho. It wasn't difficult to find a place to sit, even if there hadn't been any free tables, I knew only too well that pretty much anyone in this room would have offered their seats without being asked.
"So, was your transfer successful?" I asked. Strangely, I already felt comfortable around them, as if we'd been friends for a long time.
"Yes! It was! You should've seen the principal's face when we told him we all wanted to transfer!" Kyo said laughing. The others joined in the laugh and Kei spoke up.
"At first, he thought we were brothers, but when he saw our files, he saw that we weren't related. That's when you should've seen his face!"
"Well, it's good you guys successfully transferred." said Ryo. We all took a bit from our food.
"But, I have been wondering, how in the world did you find me?" Ryo aksed.
"Well, that wasn't too difficult, actually." Kyo stated.
"Jin was out to buy us a couple of drinks, and he saw you walk out of a take-away store across the street." Sho continued.
"And from there, he just followed you to your appartment." Kei added.
"And then the next morning, Sho went to your appartment, and followed you to school."
"But that must've been a while ago, I mean recently I've been walking with Mizuki..." Ryo said.
"Nope, it was quite recent and you were alone." replied Kyo. I thought about it for a little while, and then remembered.
"Oh, Ryo it must've been last week, when I had just gotten my part-time job. I didn't spend that much time with you remember?" I reminded him.
"Oh, well of course!" Ryo nodded, it seemed clearer to him.
"But Ryo, you still didn't explain, why you didn't tell us you were back." said Jin.
"Well..." he started.
"Seriously, why does she get to sit with them at lunch?" We heard a girl ask her friend at the table right behind us. Ryo reached across the table for my hand, took it and gave it a gentle reasuring squeeze. I looked up at him and he smiled gently and winked. I smiled back. I knew Kyo, Kei, Sho and Jin were looking, but I didn't mind. Then I heard a voice I only knew too well.
"Then why don't you just ask to join them?!" Kamiko asked boldly. We all looked up, the room had nearly gone silent. The girls stood up and left. They were embarassed that even the gang and Ryo had overheard them. Kamiko grinned satisfied as they walked away quickly. Then she turned to our table. People in the cafeteria had returned to their conversations.
"Hello everyone!" she greeted us with a broad grin.
"Hey Kamiko!" I replied equally happy to see her. I saw the guys, especially Kyo, were interested in her. Ryo and I exchanged glances and smiled. He had noticed as well... This was going to be interesting.
