We waited. Time passed by slowly. Kyo brought back the drinks, and handed one to each of us.
Jin convinced me to go for a walk outside. He said I needed some fresh air. He accompanied me. We walked, silently sipping our drinks. Just when I had started to relax, I felt sick. I covered my mouth with my hands quickly.
“Excuse me…” I mumbled quickly as I ran to the closest bathroom. Luckily I found an empty toilet cubicle, just on time.
When I came back out, thinking of some explanation for Jin, I saw him waiting for me. He must have followed me. I felt bad.
“I’m sorry…” I started.
“No, it’s okay,” Jin said, “you should go get a check-up, I’ll come with you if you want.” I looked at him for a moment. What could I tell him? I knew I wasn’t sick. But he was clearly worried. He took hold of my wrist.
“Come on. You can’t just sit there being sick. We’re in a hospital! It should be no problem to find a doctor around here.” He started walking, taking me with him.
“Jin—“ I said, he stopped and looked at me firmly.
“Mizuki, you have to take care of yourself, before you are able to take care of Ryo. You don’t want to worry him do you?” If it was the only way to keep my situation a little more discreet at the moment, I would have to tell him.
“Jin,” I tried to smile; it felt weak, “wait, can we go sit outside for a minute?” he let go of my wrist, and hesitated a moment, then agreed. We sat on a bench that faced the pond of the hospital’s garden. I took a deep breath.
“Jin, I’m pregnant with Ryo’s child.” I felt a tear drop onto my hand, I should have been telling Ryo about this first. Yet, there he was, unconscious in the hospital.
“Does Ryo know about this?” he asked calmly.
“I planned to tell him, we were going to meet up, but he got into that accident, and—“ I was starting to talk fast.
“Mizuki, it’s okay.” He took me into his arms. My tears kept flowing. “When Ryo wakes up, and hears the news, I’m sure he’ll be so happy and excited.”
“Really?” I asked, “he won’t ask to—“
“He would never! Of course he’ll be happy! Don’t worry about that.” Jin assured me. He sounded so sure of himself. How I wish, that I knew if it was true…
When we got back to the others, we found Kei fast asleep. Across from him was Kyo; he was really tired too, but he was fighting against the tiredness. If he wasn’t resisting so much, he would be out in seconds. Sho was the only one who was well awake. Jin and I went to sit across from him. They started talking quietly, and then their voices quickly became a low hum. I forced myself awake, like Kyo, I fought against the need for sleep. Jin noticed.
“You should sleep, Mizuki.” He told me.
“But what if something happens? What if he wakes up? What if—“
“Don’t worry. If something happens I’ll wake you. But you need your sleep. Now more than ever.” Clearly he wasn’t only referring to being strong for Ryo, but also for our baby. I nodded.
Quickly, tiredness engulfed me.
