We dried each other's tears. Each making fun of the other for looking so pathetic.
Our tea had gotten cold by then.
Ryo suggested that we go out for a walk, and stop by the convenience store to buy a fresh drink.
We walked through the street, hand in hand.
Ryo had insisted on taking only one of his crutches. He claimed that he was feeling much better and only needed support for his injured leg.
We walked to the park strolled.
I've always liked the smell of the grass after rain. It gave a refreshing feel. Now that the sun was shining everything looked bright, as the light was reflected off the dropplets everywhere.
"Hey, look, there's a rainbow over there." Ryo said softly.
He stood behind me, arms wrapped around my waist. His head rested on my shoulder.
We observed the rainbow together for a few minutes.
"What do you think the future holds for us?" I wondered out loud.
"I think there'll be happiness. We will do our best, and reach our dreams. Have a great family." Ryo whispered in my ear. I nodded.
"Yes, we'll live happily, making our dreams come true together." I confirmed.
"Will you marry me?" Ryo asked, still whispering. I nodded again.
"Yes, we'll get married." I replied, my heart feeling full of happiness just thinking of our plans.
"No, Mizuki," Ryo losened his grip around my waste, and made me face him, "Will you marry me?" he asked again.
That's when I understood what he was really asking.
I felt my eyes tear up again. I wasn't in the least bit sad, on the contrary. I was overjoyed.
I didn't trust my words, so I nodded. I cleared my throat then managed to say it out.
"Yes." I was smiling and crying all at once. Ryo held me to him tightly.
"If I wasn't crippled, and you weren't pregnant right now, I would pick you up, and spin you around until we both fell from being dizzy." He joked. We both laughed.
He then pulled away, and dried my tears.
"Hold on." he then said as he felt around his pockets with his one free hand, searching for something.
He then looked at his wrist.
"This should do." he said. He undid his leather bracelet, took my hand, and fastened it around my wrist.
"I don't have a ring." Ryo admitted, "But this is my lucky bracelet." he said.
It was a thin double cord, brown leather bracelet.
"Why is it lucky?" I asked.
"I wore it when I first met you, and I wore it when I survived the accident." he said looking into my eyes. "In fact, ever since I first met you, this is the only time I've ever taken it off." he confided.
Ryo put his arms around me.
I was touched. I never knew a bracelet could mean so much to someone.
I stood on tip-toes, put my arms around him and kissed him.
He pulled me closer to him, not leaving any air between us.
In just this one day, so much had happened. And there had been so many emotions.
It was a day I was sure to never forget.
