“She shouldn’t be allowed to live here in the city, let alone live at all!” said the captain.

“She is still an elf, no matter what she looks like! She should be made to live like one too!” said my nurse. 

          I was only 4 years old when the king decided that I shouldn’t be allowed to stay with the other elves. By then I had been enrolled in school, I was practicing to become a warrior.

Then it happened. The thing that singled me out made me different from the rest.

My ability to kill a person without even meaning to. It was in the fall when it happened.

        I was outside playing with my toys, when a boy came up and took my doll and he ripped its arms off. It happened so fast that I didn’t even know what had happened. I don’t remember it at all, but I have had my nurse describe it to me. I killed him by saying one ultimate word that if it should escape my lips would mean the death of anyone that heard me say it. The word changes every time I meet someone new. In anyone else’s hands the word would be harmless. But if I say it then they die. In his case, the word was “stolen”. As soon as I said it, the boy’s face changed. He looked horrified as he clutched his chest and blood started coming out of every pore on his body. He dropped to the ground, dead. My nurse picked me up and she carried me to the king. It was then that they all decided. That I was a hybrid, and that I was dangerous. So the king decreed that I was to leave forever, not to return until I turned the age of 15. Only then would the people of the city be able to remember me.  

Only then would my nurse and I be able to go back to our friends and family. And our home.
