Chapter 5:- Her
Sari had wandered off.
He'd dozed off and when he woke up he'd found her gone. She never left before. She was a loyal karagi and she'd been with him since he was 15. He wondered if someone had taken her. He didn't think it was likely, everyone knew she was his and most wouldn't dare try to steal her, but some...some might try.
He could see her prints in the grass and started following them. As the tracks led farther and farther away he picked up the pace till finally he was running. He jumped over roots and branches. As he approached the Great Trees, he heard noises and stopped suspicious.
He edged, slowly and cautiously, closer to the noise.
Sari!
He'd found her. She was in the ring of dirt facing in the almost opposite direction of him, though he could see her face. Weird, he thought, she must have sensed me by now. Why hasn't she turned around? Her ears flicked towards him though she still didn't turn around. He was about to call her when he stopped, noticing what Sari was looking at. He hid in the shadows of the trees, since Sari was in no immediate danger and peered out at her. Studying her. The girl. The stranger. He knew she was. No one here looked like her.
